My Portfolio

This collection brings together some of my favorite paintings created over the years in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Many of the original works have been sold without prints ever being made, making them one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be reproduced or reissued.

Throughout the collection, you will notice a recurring connection to the wildlife, landscapes, and quiet beauty of the Texas Hill Country, where I live. These familiar surroundings continue to inspire my work and shape the stories I tell through paint.

My wife rides horses professionally, and for as long as I have known her, we have spent a great deal of time in barns. Over the years, I began noticing small faces peeking out from hidden corners and, on rare occasions, a little furry creature darting beneath my feet. I became captivated by barn cats and by how unique and diverse they are.

Eventually, I decided to embark on a project to photograph them. What began as an idea for a coffee-table book became a calendar after I realized just how difficult these elusive creatures were to capture on film.

I relied on a variety of people, cameras, and creative approaches to bring the project to life. I purchased a game camera that shoots on 35mm film. I set aside my cherished medium-format Yashica-Mat 124G in favor of a smaller Kodak Snapic A1 after discovering that the larger camera often frightened the cats away. I even lent cameras to others in the hope that they might help capture the perfect shot.

The final collection exceeded my expectations. It has become a wonderful catalog of these delightful little specters and the quiet, mysterious lives they lead within the barns they call home.

This collection of photos reflects my deep appreciation for the natural world that surrounds the Texas Hill Country. Captured with a mix of 35mm film, 120 medium format, digital, and vintage cameras—including the Sony A7, Pentax ME Super, Kodak Snap A1, and Yashica Mat-124G—

What began as therapy became one of the great passions of my life. I started with watercolor and attempted to paint portraits—on paper, probably one of the most difficult combinations I could have chosen. Both portraiture and watercolor are notoriously challenging, and beginning later in life might have seemed like a recipe for failure and frustration.

However, by using modern resources such as YouTube tutorials and online communities where I could receive feedback, I gained a remarkable amount of useful advice and encouragement. I participated in my first art show, the Boerne Art Waddle, and received an honorable mention—an achievement I still cherish today. Years later, I returned to the same show and received first place.
I remain deeply fond of my early work. With a few small edits and thoughtful framing choices, I have even sold some of those pieces, including my first acrylic painting.
